Summary

This class explores the theological and philosophical dimensions of James Cameron’s Avatar. It analyzes the Hindu and Jewish philosophies which were cleverly combined and incorporated by Cameron in his model of Pandora. It further addresses the Vatican’s criticism of the movie and it will demonstrate that precisely such a controversy arose within the Jewish community in the early 18th century. Additionally, it presents a Jewish perspective to the relationship between nature and G-d.
